~Foods of the Rainbow~

So after stretching the limits on things we luckily still had in stock, we finally went grocery shopping! Sometimes it's nice to clear things out and have a fresh start...not to mention some treasures you find when your pantry has been whittled down to the bare minimum! Oh and clean the fridge! I thought I'd share my grocery run with ya...

Mushrooms, Carrots, Spinach, Tomatoes, Broccoli and Cauliflower, Mixed Greens

Milk, Keifer, Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Eggs, Tortillas, Pita and Hummus, Fish, Chicken Legs, and Chicken Basil Sausage

not pictured: deli meat and cheese, shredded cheese, laughing cow cheese, and goat cheese

Salsa, Plain yogurts to mix in with the single yogurts or to top with fruit, granola and nuts.

Hot Teas...Green, Peppermint, Sleepytime, Get Regular, and just plain Black Tea

Snack Shelf:(close up picture later) Rice Cakes, Crackers, Snap pea crisps, Apple Sauce, Dried Seaweed. LOTS of CEREAL...my girls would eat 5 bowls every morning if i let them!

Granolas, Dried Fruits, Seeds & Nuts, Dark Chocolates, Spices,

Canned Goods: Beans, Olives, Grains & Pasta, Nut butters, Soups

Craig's lunch stuff: This man takes a sandwich and chips to work everyday. Sometimes we change up the bread or he'll add some avocado but he eats a sandwich, chips, sweet, and fruit every.single.time. well there are burrito days and i've offered to change it up but he's accustomed to eating this and says it's easier that heating something up?!?!

Craig's lunch chips, tortilla chips (baked and regular) and Pretzels, Oats Cereal and Granola bars, Maple syrup

Bulk items: Flours (wheat, all purpose, peanut etc) Oats, Sea Salt, yes dark choco chips! more Grains, Legumes and Pastas.

Bigger shot of snacky shelf oh look there's some popcorn too!

Fruits...Pineapple, Cantaloupe, Blueberries...

Bananas, Apples, Avocado, Oranges....

with more just picked waiting to be rinsed!

So when we've waited too long to go to the store, there's oranges in the winter/spring, and figs in the summer just growing in our backyard!

not pictured: Onions, Peppers, Garlic and RED WINE!

I have a few stores that I rotate amongst...Trader Joe's is by far my favorite! The only thing I'm not a big fan of is their produce, although it has improved over the years. It's okay though because we have the Farmer's Market every Wednesday and I love getting farm fresh produce that is locally grown without harmful pesticides or hormones! Henry's Market place is another one and they have amazing produce that is super inexpensive and it's also the place I go for my bulk items. We also have the Appletree market which is really only good for last minute things or if something was forgotten or if Craig has run out of some lunch supplies. I love grocery shopping and I usually don't have a list and sometimes that works for me and other times I'll end up having to make another grocery run!

Where do you shop?

Tell me one thing I need to add to my goods!

~Whittle Your Middle~

Let's EAT!!! Eating is a very important aspect of any training plan. This is an area that often times gets neglected either by depleting yourself or not selecting well balanced foods. I've always been really good at choosing the suggested foods for fat burning. There are three things i've made an honest effort to increase in my meal planning while whittling is: 1. Dairy: Yogurt and Milk specifically. 2. Nuts: This is always scary to me because Nuts=Fat but these fats are actually GOOD for you and there are claims that it helps burn fat in the abdominal region...almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds (i know not a nut) are my favorites. 3. Green Tea: I like tea but i guess i'm more of a social drinker. Research says that drinking 2+ a day targets the mid section for weight loss so i'm drinking it up daily! I would love to share my daily intake but time is hard to come by and when you primarily eat meals at home and pack a lunch for two little ones well time is something I always wish I had more of! So, you'll have to settle for sporadic food posts. And, I promise to post some recipes here before my 30 days is up!

BREAKFAST

Yogurt: I mix nonfat plain with a flavored yogurt to cut the sugar. Greek is my favorite. Mix in some berries: strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Top with flax seed granola and a few almonds. Served with fresh squeezed OJ!

SNACK

Holy Yumminess! This IS the stuff! Oh yea top a brown rice cake with 1 Tablespoon of this stuff and a cup of milk and oh YUM!!!!

LUNCH

Ok so this was actually a lunch box idea post that I never got around to. But I had the same thing for my lunch on the go...Light string cheese, boiled egg, deli ham, carrots and I had a plum not the cinnamon bran cereal bites the girls had!

SNACK

Ok-Mak crackers topped with mashed avocado and sunflower seeds. I like to add spinach but was out!

DINNER

Yup it's my infamous "taco salad"...green and red leaf lettuce, curly kale, cilantro, red onion & bell peppers topped with re fried beans, guacamole, nonfat plain yogurt, a yummy spicy salsa and baked tortilla chips...i eat this at least once a week!

Now I will go and have some Green Tea and maybe those yummy cinnamon bran cereal bites!

what's up with my terrible photography??? must be the change in the sun shining through...oh well Day Lights Savings Time is in 10 days!!!

~Foods of the Rainbow~

When we woke up this morning, it was just like any ole morning. After the girls spend time jumping around in our bed to get us up, they run to the pantry and pull out around 4 boxes of cereal and proceed to eat at least two bowls each mixing 'em all together. Today I was like...don't you want something different?? How 'bout pancakes today...just to find out I'm all out of the easy peasy box mix. Guess we'll just have to make them from scratch....

CHOCOLATE CHIP BANANA PANCAKES

1 cup of wheat flour

1/2 cup of white flour

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 t sea salt

mix

1 large egg lightly beaten and 2 tablespoons olive oil

1 1/3 cup Milk

Mix and add one really ripe mashed banana

stir in handful of dark/semi-sweet chocolate chips~1/2+cup

Cook 1/4 cup pours on preheated griddle

BEST.

PANCAKES.

EVER.

SERIOUSLY.
